UAE Team Emirates-XRG Achieves Success In Austria And France Cycling Tours

Isaac del Toro made a triumphant return to racing by winning stage 2 of the Tour of Austria. The race took place in St. Johann Alpendorf, where Del Toro's late sprint secured victory. His teammate Felix Großschartner maintained his overall lead with a fourth-place finish. This event marked Del Toro's first race since finishing second in the Giro d’Italia in May.

Earlier in the stage, UAE Team Emirates-XRG riders Florian Vermeersch and Julius Johansen worked together to keep a five-man breakaway within reach. Their efforts ensured that the peloton was well-positioned for the final climb. The decisive ascent, averaging a 7 percent gradient, was located at Sankt Johann im Pongau and determined the day's winner.

UAE Team Emirates-XRG Triumphs in Cycling Tours

Alessandro Covi from UAE Team Emirates-XRG launched a strong attack 800m from the finish line. He quickly created a gap over the main group as he approached the final 300m. It seemed likely that Covi would claim victory for the day until Del Toro's impressive sprint changed the outcome.

Großschartner's fourth-place finish allowed him to retain his lead in the overall standings. Rafał Majka remained second overall, while Del Toro moved up to fourth place after securing his third win of the season. Del Toro expressed joy at his successful return to racing in Austria.

Meanwhile, at the Tour de France, UAE Team Emirates-XRG had a controlled day in Normandy. Tim Wellens reclaimed his polka-dot jersey from teammate Tadej Pogačar. Pogačar began the day leading several classifications but relinquished them on stage 6, taking a break from podium duties before stage 7’s uphill finish.

Pogačar handed over the Yellow Jersey to Mathieu van der Poel of Alpecin-Deceuninck, leaving him just one second behind in the race lead. Tim Wellens led over Côte de la Rançonnière, earning points for King of the Mountains and reclaiming his polka-dot jersey by stage end.

Breakaway Dynamics and Final Sprint

The battle for an intermediate sprint led to an intense fight to join the day's breakaway. Marc Soler, Nils Politt, Jhonatan Narváez, and Pavel Sivakov worked hard to prevent any threats from breaking away early on. Once satisfied with how things stood, Pogačar and his team eased off until nearing the finish.

Ben Healy of EF Education-EasyPost won that stage while Visma-Lease a Bike attempted to challenge Pogačar towards its conclusion. However, Pogačar demonstrated resilience by leading his team across after another late surge of speed.

The UAE Team Emirates-XRG showed strategic prowess both in Austria and France through teamwork and tactical decisions that paid off during crucial moments of each race.
