UAE's Key Role In Promoting Karate Globally Highlighted By WKF President

The second edition of the Karate1 Youth League - Fujairah 2024 commenced today in Fujairah, marking a significant event in the world of karate. The tournament, which runs from the 22nd to the 25th of February, is under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. The opening ceremony saw the presence of notable figures such as Antonio Espinós, President of the World Karate Federation (WKF), and Brigadier Nasser Abdul Razaq Al Razooqi, President of both the UAE and Asian Karate Federations and Vice President of the WKF.

During the event's inauguration, Espinós expressed gratitude towards the UAE for its ongoing cooperation with the WKF. He highlighted the UAE's pivotal role in supporting the sport's global development and its contribution to karate's worldwide success. Furthermore, Espinós commended Brigadier Al Razooqi and the UAE Karate Federation for their leadership and the championship’s organizing committee for their diligent work.

The tournament witnessed an impressive turnout on its first day, with participation from 78 countries, including 14 Arab nations. Egypt led the charge as the country with the highest number of participants, boasting 274 competitors. The day's events focused on competitions for the Under-21 category in both kata and kumite disciplines.

Emirati clubs are also making a strong showing at the tournament, with 108 competitors across all categories. This event is notable for its inclusivity, allowing competitors from around the globe, including cubs, juniors, youth, Under-21s, and those affiliated with national teams and clubs, to participate.

This year's Karate1 Youth League - Fujairah 2024 not only serves as a platform for showcasing emerging talents in karate but also reinforces the UAE's commitment to promoting sports and physical activities at both regional and international levels.
