Sharjah Hosts 11th Annual Marathon To Support Arthritis Patients And Promote Health
The Friends of Arthritis Patients, in collaboration with the Health Promotion Department of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs in Sharjah, is gearing up for its eleventh annual marathon on 25th February. This year's theme, "Movement is Life," underscores the event's commitment to fostering health awareness and supporting those living with arthritis. The marathon, a fixture in the community's calendar, draws attention to the importance of movement in managing arthritis and supports patients grappling with the condition's daily challenges.
In a strategic partnership with key local entities such as the Sharjah Police General Command, Sharjah Sports Council, and several others including Sharjah International Marine Sports Club and Emirates Red Crescent, the marathon promises a day filled with activities beyond running. Participants can look forward to rowing and kayaking events, free health consultations, and various competitions with attractive prizes. Additionally, entertainment tailored for children, including face painting and sports demonstrations, ensures a family-friendly atmosphere.

The marathon is meticulously organized into five stages to accommodate participants of all ages and physical capabilities. It kicks off with a 1-kilometre walk for all ages up to 99 years, followed by running events of increasing distances: 1 kilometre for those aged 8 and above, 3.5 kilometres for ages 13+, a 10-kilometre run for participants 15 years and older, and culminating in a challenging 20-kilometre run for those aged 16 and above. This structured approach ensures inclusivity, allowing everyone from novices to seasoned athletes to partake in the day's events.
At the event's conclusion, outstanding performers across the different stages will be recognized and awarded financial incentives. Moreover, an educational component is integrated into the marathon day. A scientific day featuring talks by renowned rheumatologists, nutritionists, health experts, and athletes will provide valuable insights into managing arthritis effectively.
The annual marathon not only highlights the challenges faced by individuals living with arthritis but also plays a pivotal role in promoting community health and wellness. By involving a broad spectrum of society and partnering with various organizations, the event amplifies its message of health awareness. The inclusion of free health services like consultations and examinations further underscores the marathon's commitment to public well-being.
With its comprehensive approach combining physical activity, education, and community engagement, the 11th annual marathon by The Friends of Arthritis Patients is poised to make a significant impact. It stands as a testament to the power of collective action in addressing health issues and fostering a supportive environment for those affected by arthritis. The event is anticipated to attract wide participation from across the community, marking another successful chapter in its ongoing mission to raise awareness about arthritis at the state level.
