Qatar Launches Groundbreaking Programme To Identify Next-Gen Racing Talents

Dream to become a racer and compete among the world's best? It's now possible as Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) is spearheading an innovative program aimed at unearthing and cultivating young Qatari motorsport talent.

Dubbed the Qatar Motorsports Academy Stars, this programme is tailored to recognize and assist young Qataris in their journey towards becoming professional racers. Set against the backdrop of the Lusail International Circuit, the initiative underscores QMMF's dedication to nurturing future motorsport stars.

With the selection process slated for January 17, 2025, at the Qatar Motorsports Academy, this initiative represents a significant step towards harnessing the potential of Qatar's youth in the realm of motorsport.

The selection process for the Qatar Motorsports Academy Stars hinges on a series of competitive trials. Participants, who are required to be Qatari nationals aged between 15 and 25, will navigate through a short slalom course marked by plastic obstacles. Utilizing easy-to-operate vehicles, the aim is to clock the fastest times through precision and skill.

The initial phase will see top performers advancing to more challenging slalom courses, with the ultimate goal of identifying the 35 fastest drivers. These finalists will then compete in the final rounds on January 18 and 19, 2025, showcasing their abilities across different vehicles and terrains.

The rigorous final stages of the selection process are designed to evaluate 25 drivers, including a mandatory cohort of at least 15 individuals with no previous racing background. Special consideration is given to younger aspirants aged 15-18, with five exclusive slots reserved for them.

A panel of motorsport experts will assess the finalists over two days, taking into consideration their psychological and physical aptitudes alongside their driving prowess. This comprehensive evaluation aims to ensure a holistic assessment of each participant's potential for a career in motorsport.

The top three talents unearthed through this initiative will be granted the opportunity to make their mark in competitive racing. Depending on the selection committee's decision, they might find themselves competing in the MERC Junior Category or the Qatar National Baja Championship.

Additionally, younger participants, specifically those under 18, will be integrated into the Qatar Motorsport Academy's training program until they are of legal age to obtain a driving license. At least one of these young racers will get the chance to represent the Qatar National Team, further highlighting the program's commitment to developing motorsport at the grassroots level.

This initiative aligns seamlessly with the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to foster a vibrant community of motorsport enthusiasts and professionals. By offering young Qataris unparalleled access to expert coaching and competitive platforms, QMMF is setting the stage for the emergence of a new generation of racing champions. The Qatar Motorsports Academy Stars program not only seeks to elevate the profile of motorsport within the country but also to inspire young individuals to pursue their racing ambitions with vigor and determination.

Amro Al Hamad, Executive Director of QMMF and CEO of Lusail International Circuit, emphasized the program's broader objectives, stating, "The program is a testament to our belief in the untapped potential of Qatar's youth. We aim to provide a platform that identifies and nurtures the next generation of Qatari motorsport talent. This initiative is not just about racing; it's about building future ambassadors for Qatari motorsport."
