Russell Celebrates Dream Pole At Silverstone Ahead Of Hamilton And Norris
George Russell expressed his amazement at securing pole position at Silverstone, a feat he had only dreamed of. On Saturday afternoon, Russell outpaced Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton and McLaren's Lando Norris to clinch the top spot at the British Grand Prix. This marks the first time since 1968 that the front three positions on Sunday's grid will be occupied by British drivers.
Russell narrowly beat Hamilton to pole by 0.171 seconds, with Norris trailing by 0.211 seconds after failing to complete his second lap in the final session. Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start in fourth place, while Norris' team-mate Oscar Piastri rounds out the top five.

"What a feeling," Russell exclaimed. "At the start of this year, I don't think we could have even dreamt of being on pole here. One-two for me and Lewis, and Lando – it's just mega." He credited the fans for their energy, saying, "It's down to these fans as well; they give us so much energy, so thank you for that."
The car felt exceptional during qualifying, according to Russell. "The car at the moment is feeling so good; it really came alive in quali and what a joy to drive around this circuit," he said. Despite his excitement, Russell remains focused on the race ahead. "We are riding this wave at the moment and I'm absolutely buzzing, but eyes on tomorrow; we've got a race to win and it's going to be tight with Lando. Max is going to be fast as well but I'm so excited right now."
It was a disappointing day for Ferrari. Carlos Sainz finished seventh-fastest behind Haas' Nico Hulkenberg, while Charles Leclerc will start from 11th place. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll secured eighth position, with Williams driver Alex Albon and Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso completing the top ten.
Verstappen's Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez had a tough qualifying session and will start from 19th after spinning out in the first session.
