Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Ready For FIA WEC Debut In Qatar, Ushers In New GT Racing Era

Aston Martin embarks on a pivotal journey in the realm of sportscar racing with the unveiling of the new Vantage GT3, set to compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the Qatar 1812 KM event at the Lusail International Circuit. This marks a significant moment as the brand continues to build on its rich racing heritage.

For the first time in the series' history, the 2024 FIA WEC will introduce the LMGT3 class, featuring FIA homologated GT3 cars. This development sees Aston Martin among nine prestigious sportscar manufacturers vying for supremacy across four continents. Notable races include six-hour challenges at Spa-Francorchamps and Fuji, with the highlight being the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a historic race that has captivated audiences for over a century.

Vantage GT3 Debuts at FIA WEC Qatar

The Vantage GT3, inspired by its luxury road-going counterpart unveiled earlier, is engineered around Aston Martin's bonded aluminium chassis, powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine. With its comprehensive aerodynamic design, updated suspension, and advanced electronics, this racer is equipped to continue Aston Martin's legacy of world championship victories.

Aston Martin's aspirations for the Vantage GT3 are high, with the vehicle being entrusted to the D'station Racing and Heart of Racing teams in the LMGT3 category. This new classification replaces the LMGTE Am as the sole GT racing class in the FIA WEC, presenting a fresh challenge for the teams.

D'station Racing undergoes a significant change this season, with Tomonobu Fujii stepping back from driving duties to concentrate on his role as Managing Director and Team Principal, while Satoshi Hoshino plans to compete exclusively at Le Mans. The team welcomes Aston Martin works driver Marco Sørensen, alongside champions Erwan Bastard and Clément Mateu, aiming for top honours.

Conversely, Heart of Racing enters its inaugural full WEC season on the back of a successful stint in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and a commendable performance at Le Mans. The team, retaining its previous lineup, made a notable debut with the Vantage GT3 at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, achieving a fourth-place finish in the GTD Pro category.

Global Endeavours and Expectations

The 2024 WEC season promises to be a thrilling one for Aston Martin, with races scheduled across the globe, leading up to the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans and concluding with the 8 Hours of Bahrain. Adam Carter, Aston Martin's Head of Endurance Motorsport, expressed optimism for the Vantage GT3, acknowledging the steep learning curve but emphasizing the car's improved capabilities based on past successes.

Official practice for the Qatar 1812KM begins on February 29, with the race flagged off on March 2, highlighting a new chapter in Aston Martin's storied racing journey. Fans and enthusiasts can follow the event's progress through the official WEC website and app, as Aston Martin and its partner teams vie for glory in this exciting new era of sportscar racing.
