Oman: UTAS Unveils 7 New Master’s Programmes To Amp Up Academic Excellence In 2025
The University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) has taken a significant step towards academic excellence with the introduction of seven new master's programmes, set to commence in February 2025. These initiatives are a testament to UTAS's commitment to enriching its academic portfolio and creating a nurturing environment for research and innovation. The announcement underscores the institution's dedication to academic growth and its response to the evolving educational landscape.
In an effort to align with the Oman Vision 2040 and the rapid advancements in technology, Dr. Saeed bin Hamad al Rubaie, the President of UTAS, shared his enthusiasm for the new offerings. He stated, "By introducing these specialised programmes, we aim to adapt to evolving knowledge paradigms, foster research and innovation skills, and enhance leadership and communication abilities." This vision reflects a broader aim to prepare graduates for the dynamic demands of the global labour market through targeted educational strategies.
Highlighting the inclusive nature of these programmes, UTAS has announced that it will provide tuition-free scholarships for a variety of master's courses. This initiative is designed to ensure that quality higher education is accessible to aspiring students from Oman and beyond, reflecting the university's commitment to fostering academic success across a diverse student body.
Dr. Fatima bint Abdullah al Muqbali, the Dean of Graduate Studies at UTAS, emphasized the university's dedication to elevating educational standards. She elaborated on how the graduate programmes are meticulously crafted to enhance scientific research, bolster research capabilities, and equip students with the necessary skills to thrive in the workforce. The strategic focus on research and practical application aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world challenges.
Starting in February 2025, UTAS will roll out six master's programmes, with an additional programme planned for the 2025-26 academic year. Among the offerings are specialised courses geared towards meeting the needs of various sectors. The College of Education in Rustaq, for instance, will introduce a Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, with specialisations in English for Academic and Special Purposes, and Digital Education in the Knowledge Society.
The business and technology sectors are not left behind, with the College of Economics and Business Administration set to offer a Master's of Business Administration in Leadership and Innovation, alongside a Master's of Science in Customs and Taxation. Meanwhile, the College of Computer and Information Sciences will launch a Master's of Science in Digital Transformation and Innovation. For those inclined towards engineering, the College of Engineering and Technology will provide Technical Master's in Mining Operations Engineering and a Technical Master's in Reliability and Maintainability Engineering.
The introduction of these programmes is an open invitation to both Omani and international students seeking advanced education.
