University Of Sharjah And Financial University Of Russia Explore Academic Collaboration
The University of Sharjah (UoS) recently hosted a delegation from the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. The visit, led by Prof. Stanislav Prokofiev, aimed to explore potential academic and research collaborations between the two institutions. Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS, extended a warm welcome on behalf of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi.
During the meeting, Prof. Al Naimiy provided an overview of UoS's growth since its inception in 1997. He highlighted that it is now the largest university in the UAE, with over 20,500 students enrolled across 15 academic colleges offering 140 programmes. The university's global ranking and comprehensive educational approach were also emphasised as key achievements.

Discussions during the visit centred around various collaborative opportunities. These included potential partnerships in academic and research fields, as well as knowledge and cultural exchange initiatives. Both institutions expressed interest in faculty and student exchange programmes and joint efforts in research publications, conferences, and symposia.
The Russian delegation showed particular interest in developing academic programmes related to Islamic banking and financial technology. They discussed integrating these areas with Artificial Intelligence to enhance educational offerings further. This collaboration aims to foster innovation and knowledge sharing between both universities.
The meeting was attended by several notable figures from UoS, including Prof. Mammar Bettayeb, Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies; Prof. Ilhan Ozturk, Dean of the College of Business Administration; and Prof. Abdelaziz Soufyane, Director of the International Relations Office. Their presence underscored the importance of this potential collaboration.
Prof. Al Naimiy expressed his enthusiasm for future partnerships with the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. He noted that such collaborations could significantly benefit both institutions by enhancing their academic offerings and research capabilities.
This visit marks a significant step towards strengthening ties between UoS and international academic institutions. By exploring new avenues for cooperation, both universities aim to expand their global reach and impact in education and research.
