Qatar To Open 14 New Schools In Ambitious Educational Initiative
Doha has embarked on an ambitious project to enhance its educational infrastructure through a significant public-private partnership initiative. Fourteen new schools, designed to cater to over 10,000 students, are set to open their doors for the 2025-26 academic year. This development represents a substantial effort to improve the quality of education across various regions in Qatar.
The Public Works Authority 'Ashghal', in collaboration with Urbacon Trading and Contracting Company, has formalised an agreement to construct educational institutions, adhering to Law No (12) of 2022, which regulates partnerships between the public and private sectors. The project encompasses five primary schools, four preparatory schools, three secondary schools, and two science and technology schools, strategically located in different areas to ensure wide accessibility.
Strategic Educational Expansion
These new schools are part of the Qatar Schools Development Programme's second package, a collaboration involving the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The initiative aligns with the Third National Development Strategy 2030-2024, marking the final phase of Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to bolster private sector engagement in the country's economic fields and contribute to long-term national goals.
The signing ceremony saw the participation of distinguished officials including HE Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and HE Buthaina Bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, among others, signifying the project's high importance to Qatar's future educational landscape.
Innovative Construction Techniques
Eng. Jaralla Mohammed Al Marri, Manager of Buildings Projects Department at Ashghal, highlighted the project's innovative approach, incorporating modern construction methods such as 3D printing technology and modular building using prefabricated structures. This initiative underscores Ashghal's commitment to adopting efficient and sustainable construction techniques to achieve world-class standards of quality.
Enhancing Educational Foundations
Khalid Mohammed Al-Hajri, from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, highlighted the project's alignment with educational objectives, aiming to provide a modern, sophisticated foundation that fosters creativity and innovation among students. The new schools will feature 30 classrooms, including facilities for students with special needs, laboratories for sciences, languages, and IT, sports, art and multipurpose halls, libraries, and outdoor spaces, offering a comprehensive educational environment.
This strategic initiative not only reflects Qatar's commitment to improving education but also demonstrates the effective use of public-private partnerships in achieving developmental goals, setting a precedent for future educational infrastructure projects.
