Qatar Education Ministry Opens Registration For New Academic Year: What Parents Need to Know
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar has issued a notice to parents, urging them to register their children, both new and transferring students, for the upcoming academic year 2024-2025. The registration window opened on April 21 and will remain active until the start of the new academic session. An influx of approximately 16,584 new students is anticipated this year, adding to the existing tally of 137,070 students currently enrolled across public schools in Qatar.
Qatar's education sector is robust, with 214 government schools encompassing 89 elementary, 46 preparatory, 49 secondary, 26 combined, and 4 mixed schools, in addition to 64 kindergartens. The nation also supports inclusive education through 93 integration schools, catering to 3,446 students with special needs. To streamline the registration process, parents are advised to update crucial information, including contact details and health records.
The ministry underscores the need for selecting schools within students' residential areas to minimize travel time and reduce school congestion. The registration mechanism prioritizes Qataris, children of Qataris, and GCC citizens during the initial phase of electronic registration. Following this, from May 26 to June 20, the registration will be open to students of all nationalities. Parents are encouraged to utilize the ministry's online portal for school allocations based on residential electricity numbers. Nursery stage registrations and admissions to technical and specialized schools are also to be conducted online, with the latter requiring in-person registration.
Committed to inclusive education, the ministry is not only enhancing support services for students with disabilities but also planning to establish more integration schools. Specialized training workshops have been conducted to equip teams with the necessary skills for the registration process. The ministry's focus remains on equitable student distribution, upholding Qatari identity and Islamic values, offering superior educational resources, and addressing the diverse needs of its student population. With a student-to-teacher ratio of 12:1 in kindergartens and a comprehensive academic and counseling guidance system in secondary schools, the ministry aims to foster an interactive and high-quality learning environment.
Parents are reminded that the registration process is stringent, with no exceptions. In cases where the preferred school is unavailable, they might have to consider alternate options provided by the ministry. This initiative is part of Qatar's broader aim to ensure a balanced educational landscape, empowering students to carve promising futures while rooted in their cultural and religious heritage.
