Swiss International School Students To Attend NAE-UNICEF Summit In Houston

The Swiss International School, a part of the esteemed Nord Anglia Education (NAE) network, is sending two of its students to the NAE-UNICEF Student Summit. This year, the event marks a significant milestone as it will be held in Houston, Texas, from the 12th to the 19th of June 2024, the first time the summit is hosted in this city. The inclusion of the Swiss International School's students in this prestigious event underscores the school's commitment to global education and social responsibility.

Houston has been selected as the venue for its status as the first "Child-Friendly City" in the United States. The summit will take place at The Village School and the British International School of Houston, both part of Nord Anglia's network. This choice of location highlights the importance of providing a nurturing environment that supports child welfare and education.

Students Join NAE-UNICEF Summit 2024

This year's Summit will focus on "Innovation" and aims to equip student ambassadors with the skills and knowledge to become effective changemakers. Workshops led by UNICEF and other expert organizations will cover topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advocacy, community impact, and student leadership. Participants will also present at the "Global Issues Solutions Fair," addressing global challenges in areas like nutrition, learning, and health.

In addition to workshops and presentations, students will engage in "peer talks" to discuss their efforts in sustainability, climate change, and social equality. These activities are part of Nord Anglia Education's partnership with UNICEF, which seeks to develop learning materials on the SDGs and empower students to contribute positively to their communities.

Dr. Leslie Williams, Senior Programme Lead for Social Impact and Giving at NAE, expressed excitement about the summit, stating, "We're thrilled our student leaders are making their way to Houston to join our flagship event, which will inspire positive actions in their schools and communities." She emphasized the goal of fostering a generation of creative and resilient global citizens committed to making the world a better place.

Ruth Burke, the Principal at the Swiss International School, also shared her enthusiasm for the summit. She highlighted its alignment with the school's mission and values, particularly its commitment to sustainability and cultivating changemakers. The summit represents a unique opportunity for students to showcase their initiatives and collaborate with peers who share a passion for social impact.

The NAE-UNICEF Student Summit is just one avenue through which Nord Anglia students engage with the SDGs and social impact. The Social Impact Distinctions program allows schools to achieve accreditation levels based on their integration of children's rights and the SDGs into their curriculum. Additionally, students can receive funding through the Social Impact Grants to further their community projects.

In total, 123 students from Nord Anglia Education's international schools have been chosen to attend the summit, highlighting the global nature of this initiative. Through its collaboration with UNICEF and a focus on the SDGs, Nord Anglia Education continues to emphasize the importance of social impact and global citizenship in today's education. The summit in Houston promises to be a transformative experience for all participants, fostering a spirit of innovation and leadership that will resonate within their communities and beyond.
