This partnership with Dubai Humanitarian aligns with our commitment to providing students with invaluable experiential learning opportunities and contributing to the broader societal impact through sustainable solutions."
The partnership is designed to leverage the strengths and expertise of both Dubai Humanitarian and Heriot-Watt University Dubai to achieve several strategic objectives. These include providing hands-on training and internship programs for students at Dubai Humanitarian, which will enhance their skills and provide real-world experience in a dynamic workplace environment.
Another key aspect of this collaboration is knowledge-sharing initiatives and educational trips. These activities will enable students and faculty to gain insights into the latest trends and best practices in the humanitarian sector. Such exposure is expected to enrich their academic experience significantly.
A notable initiative from this partnership is the Packaging for Sustainability Programme. This programme engages academic experts, industry leaders, government officials, students, and innovators through various academic activations. The programme includes events like the Packaging for Sustainability Symposium scheduled for 21 October 2024.
The partnership also focuses on joint research projects that address key challenges in the humanitarian field through cutting-edge research and development. Both parties will undertake collaborative projects focusing on sustainable packaging approaches and other innovative solutions.
Hosting and organizing events such as academic conferences, forums, site visits, seminars, and symposiums are also part of this collaboration. These events will serve as platforms for sharing knowledge, fostering dialogue, and driving innovation within the humanitarian sector.
The Packaging for Sustainability Programme includes a Design Competition that encourages students to create practical solutions for reducing environmental impacts of packaging. This competition runs from June to October 2024 and culminates in a presentation by the winning team at COP29 in Azerbaijan.
This initiative is expected to yield several impactful outcomes. These include developing innovative packaging solutions that reduce environmental impact, increasing awareness among stakeholders about sustainable practices, establishing long-term collaborations, and nurturing a new generation of environmental leaders.
