Parking Woes In Dubai: CUD Students Awarded Dh5,000 For This Innovative Solution

In an innovative attempt to tackle the parking woes that motorists face in Dubai, a team of Canadian University Dubai (CUD) students has developed a platform designed to ease these difficulties. Second-year students, Ramisha Ahmareen Zaman and Fatma Ahmad Alattar, have been awarded the first prize of Dh5,000 for their Rent-a-Parking platform at the Entrepreneurship Showcase during the Brand Me Summit.

The Brand Me Summit, a student-led initiative held at CUD's City Walk campus, highlighted the significance of personal branding and featured a host of speakers from various industries. It was in this vibrant setting that the idea of Rent-a-Parking came to the fore, stemming from Zaman and Alattar's personal experiences with the scarcity of parking spaces in Dubai.

Innovative Parking Solution in Dubai

With the city known for its high number of cars per capita, the duo sought a sustainable alternative to creating more parking spaces. Their solution? A dynamic online marketplace where residents with unused parking spaces in residential buildings can offer them for rent. This innovative system not only allows for the monetization of unused spaces but also provides a practical solution for drivers seeking parking. The service is available across the city and caters to different needs, offering spaces for hours, days, or even months.

The Entrepreneurship Showcase at CUD saw other innovative projects as well. Runners-up included the team behind Raybot+, a prototype designed to aid maintenance teams in parks and public spaces, and Visionary Ventures with their smart infant feeding and nutrition tracker.

The judging panel for the competition comprised notable figures from the UAE business scene, including Ahmed Ben Chaibah of Aqua Fun, Dr. Mohammed Naji of Liberty Medical Group, Omar Al Ashi of Urent, Firas Al Msaddi of Fam Properties, Jigar Sagar of Creative Zone, and Mohamed Hilal of Mohamed Hilal Group, who also sponsored the competition prize.

Having spent nearly a year conducting market analysis and developing their prototype, Zaman and Alattar are now eyeing the next phase of their project. They aim to seek investment opportunities and work on developing a regulatory framework in collaboration with authorities like the RTA. With the growing scarcity of parking spaces, especially in urban areas, the Rent-a-Parking initiative promises a sustainable solution to a persistent problem.
