BITS Pilani Dubai Launches First-Ever Bachelor's in Robotics and Industrial Automation
The BITS Pilani Dubai Campus (BPDC) has taken a significant step forward in the field of engineering education by introducing a B.E. programme in Robotics and Industrial Automation.
This initiative marks the first of its kind across all BITS Pilani campuses worldwide, showcasing the Dubai campus's leadership in robotics education within the network.

This programme is launched at a critical time when the global robotics market, which was valued at $62.75 billion in 2019, is expected to grow exponentially by 2027.
The UAE and the broader GCC region are at the forefront of this advancement, thanks to their investments in smart city projects, AI, logistics, manufacturing, energy, and healthcare sectors.
This innovative programme is designed to arm students with robust expertise in robotics, industrial automation, and artificial intelligence. It emphasizes interdisciplinary learning and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-equipped for the evolving demands of intelligent automation.
The curriculum incorporates foundational subjects in mechanical, electronic, and computer systems, alongside specialized courses like AI for Robotics and Industrial Automation & Control.
Furthermore, hands-on experience with industry-standard tools such as Programmable Logic Controllers and Human-Machine Interfaces is an integral part of the learning process.
The curriculum and courses for the B.E. programme in Robotics and Industrial Automation were collaboratively developed by the Departments of Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Science at BPDC.
This collaborative effort ensures a comprehensive education, blending theoretical knowledge with practical lab sessions. Twelve of the programme's courses include dedicated lab workshops, facilitated by the institution's state-of-the-art facilities, aiming to foster hands-on learning.

Prof. Souri Banerjee, Director of BPDC, emphasized the programme's relevance, stating, "Robotics is no longer science fiction. It's the future of every industry—from manufacturing and healthcare to logistics, agriculture, and even space exploration. With this programme, we are preparing our students to be leaders in this transformation, empowering them with advanced technical skills and the ability to innovate."
The programme offers a broad selection of electives in areas like Deep Learning, Autonomous Aerial Vehicles, and AR/VR in Robotics, ensuring students receive a well-rounded education that meets modern industry demands.

"It's the right time that we have launched this particular programme," said Prof. Vincent Shantha Kumar, Associate Professor and Head of the Programme.
He highlighted the programme's alignment with global standards and its unique position among engineering fields due to the high demand for professionals in aerospace, industries, and energy sectors.
Graduates of this programme will find a wide array of career opportunities awaiting them. Roles such as Robotics Engineer, Mechatronics Engineer, and Automation Engineer are just a few examples of the diverse prospects available.
The programme also facilitates opportunities for students to engage with leading companies in the UAE and India, including Siemens, Honeywell, and Emirates Airlines. This extensive network of industry partnerships enhances the employability and career development of BPDC graduates.
As an international extension of the prestigious BITS Pilani, BPDC provides a globally benchmarked education within a multicultural environment.
The campus's modern infrastructure and vibrant community further enrich the student experience. Additionally, students have the option to pursue Minor Programmes in Data Science and Entrepreneurship, broadening their academic and professional scope.
Admissions for the B.E. in Robotics and Industrial Automation are currently open, welcoming high school graduates with a background in Physics and Mathematics.
