AUS And UM-Flint Forge Partnership For Dual Master's Degree Programme

The American University of Sharjah (AUS) and the Regents of the University of Michigan, on behalf of the University of Michigan-Flint College of Innovation and Technology (UM-Flint), have unveiled a new collaborative educational initiative. This initiative introduces a dual master’s degree programme designed to expand educational opportunities and enhance global learning experiences for students. The fields covered by this programme include computer science and information systems, cybersecurity, data analytics, electrical and computer engineering, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, smart manufacturing, human-centred design, and software engineering.

This innovative partnership facilitates a 1+1 Program, allowing engineering students to complete the first year of their master’s degree at AUS and then apply for admission to UM-Flint to complete their second year. Successful applicants will have the chance to pursue master’s degrees in a variety of advanced disciplines at UM-Flint, provided they meet all necessary admission policies and standards. Additionally, AUS students will benefit from reduced in-state tuition rates at UM-Flint.

Dual Master's Degree by AUS & UM-Flint

Dr Fadi Aloul, Dean of the AUS College of Engineering, highlighted the significance of this partnership. "This partnership represents a significant milestone in fostering international academic collaboration. By leveraging the strengths of both institutions, we aim to provide our students with unparalleled educational opportunities and equip them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in today's globalized world," he stated.

Under the terms of this agreement, AUS students must meet UM-Flint’s English proficiency requirements and adhere to all admission standards. The process is streamlined for AUS students as third-party credential evaluation will be waived.

Marouane Kessentini, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education at the College of Innovation and Technology, UM-Flint, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. "We are excited to partner with AUS on this program for graduate education. Our faculty are very active in research, and graduate students play a critical role on these research teams," he said. He further emphasized that students at the College of Innovation and Technology would receive scholarship support, enjoy a great learning environment, and have numerous opportunities to develop their expertise for future career success.

The collaboration between AUS and UM-Flint goes beyond mere academic exchange; it represents a mutual commitment to advancing global progress in engineering education and research. Through strategic partnerships like this one, cultural exchanges, and transformative initiatives, AUS continues to foster a diverse and inclusive learning environment. This environment not only empowers students to address complex global challenges but also drives innovation on an international scale.

Upon successfully completing programme requirements at both institutions, AUS students will be awarded two master’s degrees: one from AUS and another from the Regents of the University of Michigan. This dual degree programme exemplifies the collaborative efforts of both institutions to provide high-quality education that transcends geographical boundaries.
