Abu Dhabi Fund For Development Launches Advanced Veterinary Hospital In Jordan
The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art veterinary educational hospital at the Jordan University of Science and Technology, marking a significant milestone in the development of veterinary education in Jordan. This facility, the first of its kind in the country and the largest in the region, spans 7,000 square metres and is aimed at aligning with international advancements in veterinary medicine, lifting educational standards, and boosting public understanding of veterinary care.
The Dh26 million (US$7 million) project, financed by the ADFD through the grant provided by the UAE to Jordan in 2012 as part of the Gulf Development Fund, which totalled Dh4.6 billion, was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr. Bishr Al Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Her Excellency Zeina Touqan, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation in Jordan, and Faisal Al Zeyoudi, Charge D'Affaires of the UAE Embassy in Jordan, among others.

H.E. Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, expressed his satisfaction with the project’s opening, highlighting the project’s role in enhancing the educational infrastructure in Jordan and providing advanced training opportunities in the field of veterinary medicine. "The Fund's strategic partnership with the Jordanian government since 1974 has been instrumental in supporting the country's development goals. The establishment of this faculty represents a significant step forward in the education sector," he noted.
The new facility is expected to offer advanced scientific training for students at the College of Veterinary Medicine, preparing them for future job opportunities while providing therapeutic care for livestock, thus supporting food security initiatives.
Her Excellency Zeina Touqan emphasised the importance of the veterinary educational hospital in supporting Jordan's livestock preservation efforts. "The UAE's support, facilitated by the ADFD, has been crucial in implementing this strategic initiative, aimed at fostering economic and social development in Jordan," she stated.
Dr. Khaled Al Salem, President of the University of Science and Technology, shared his pride in the project's completion and its contribution to advancing educational standards in Jordan. "With the support of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, we've managed to create an ideal learning environment equipped with the latest tools and laboratories, ensuring high-quality education for our students," he remarked.
The newly inaugurated veterinary educational hospital encompasses various veterinary medical departments and specialised clinics, alongside developed infrastructure and service facilities, thereby setting a new benchmark in veterinary education in the region.
The ADFD's contributions to Jordan's development span across multiple sectors including renewable energy, transport, healthcare, and education, with investments amounting to approximately Dh6.5 billion (US$1.7 billion), reinforcing the strong bilateral relations and mutual development goals between the UAE and Jordan.
