Zee Entertainment Provides Update On Certification Issues For Kangana Ranaut's Emergency Film

Zee Entertainment Enterprises, co-producing Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency," informed the Bombay High Court about ongoing discussions with the Censor Board regarding the film's certification. Initially set for a September 6 release, the movie faced delays due to issues with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The CBFC suggested that the film could be released if specific cuts were made as per their revising committee's decision.

Senior counsel Sharan Jagtiani addressed Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla, stating that discussions between the CBFC and Manikarnika Films, Ranaut's production company, are progressing. "I believe it is working out between the CBFC and respondent 2 (Ranaut's Manikarnika Films, co-producer)," Jagtiani mentioned. The court scheduled another hearing for Friday. Earlier in the week, it was noted that Manikarnika Films had agreed to make the necessary cuts.

Update on Kangana Ranaut's Emergency Film Certification

The film, directed by Kangana Ranaut who also stars as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has stirred controversy. Sikh organisations, including Shiromani Akali Dal, have raised objections over alleged misrepresentation of their community and inaccuracies in historical facts. Zee Entertainment claimed in its plea that although the CBFC had prepared a certificate for "Emergency," it was not being issued.

Ranaut accused the CBFC of intentionally delaying certification to postpone the film's release. Zee Entertainment further alleged that political motives were behind withholding the certificate, especially with elections approaching in Haryana. The bench questioned why the ruling BJP would act against Ranaut, considering she is a BJP MP herself.

The high court was informed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises about their request for a directive to compel the CBFC to issue a certificate for "Emergency." This biographical drama remains entangled in disputes due to objections from Sikh groups and accusations of historical inaccuracies.

As discussions continue between Zee Entertainment and the CBFC, all parties involved are hopeful for a resolution soon. The court proceedings will determine if any further actions are required to facilitate the film's release.
