Zakir Hussain's Family Shares Emotional Instagram Post Following His Death
Following the burial of Zakir Hussain at a San Francisco cemetery, his family shared an emotional post on his Instagram account. This marked the first update since Hussain's passing due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease. The 73-year-old tabla maestro was laid to rest last week. The post featured a touching black-and-white photo showing the hands of Hussain, his wife Antonia Minnecola, and daughters Anisa and Isabella Qureshi held together. The caption read, "Always together in love," tagging the family members.
The Instagram post has garnered over 21,000 likes, nearly 1,000 comments, and more than 300 shares. Among those who liked it were Hussain's Shakti bandmate Shankar Mahadevan and musicians like Karsh Kale, Ankur Tewari, Hariharan, and Pakistani artist Ali Sethi. Hussain was laid to rest at Fernwood Cemetery in San Francisco on Thursday. Hundreds of admirers attended his funeral to pay their respects.

Hussain's career spanned six decades during which he became one of the world's most accomplished percussionists. He received four Grammy Awards, including three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year. His contributions to music earned him numerous accolades in India as well. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2002, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
During the funeral service, several musicians paid tribute by playing drums nearby. Sivamani was among those who honoured him with their performances. Zakir Hussain was not only celebrated for his musical talent but also cherished for his role as a son of tabla legend Ustad Alla Rakha.
