Family Confirms The Death Of Zakir Hussain: The renowned tabla virtuoso, Zakir Hussain, aged 73, was admitted to the ICU due to heart and blood pressure issues. On Sunday, rumours of his death spread. However, his nephew, Ameer Aulia, clarified on X that Zakir Hussain was still alive and requested prayers for his recovery. Unfortunately, by Monday morning, his family confirmed his passing. Here's their statement.
Zakir Hussain's family confirmed his death in a San Francisco hospital at 73. In a statement to India Today on Monday morning, they said, "Zakir Hussain, one of the world's most transcendent musicians, passed away from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in San Francisco at the age of 73. He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy cherished by countless music lovers around the globe, with an influence that will resonate for generations to come. (sic)"

The Bollywood community expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Zakir Hussain. Kareena Kapoor shared a photo on Instagram showing her father Randhir Kapoor shaking hands with him, captioning it "Maestro Forever." Bhumi Pednekar also paid tribute by saying, "Maestro ???? His rhythm will echo in our hearts forever ????????????#zakirhussain." Other celebrities like Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar, Ritesh Deshmukh, and Snup Jalota also mourned his passing.
Zakir Hussain was born on March 9, 1951, as the eldest son of legendary tabla player Alla Rakha. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades such as three Grammy Awards and the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship. He was also awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship and Award. His contributions were further recognized with the Padma Shri in 1988, Padma Bhushan in 2002, and Padma Vibhushan in 2023.
