Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani Re-Release Collection Day 1: Strong Opening Yet Falls Short Of Tumbbad
The beloved film "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" made a nostalgic return to cinemas on 3rd January 2025, nearly 12 years after its initial release. Directed by Ayan Mukerji, this classic rom-com features Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kalki Koechlin. The re-release allowed fans to relive the memorable moments shared by Bunny and his friends Naina, Avi, and Aditi.
In a move to kick off the New Year with a bang, Karan Johar decided to bring back the 2013 hit "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" to theatres. This film has always been cherished for its portrayal of love and friendship. Its return on the big screen was met with enthusiasm from audiences who were eager to experience it once more.

The re-release of YJHD was met with significant anticipation and opened strongly at the box office. According to Sacnilk's report, the film earned approximately Rs 1.20 crore (nett) in major national chains on its first day back in cinemas. Over 65,000 tickets were sold for this opening day event. The movie was shown in PVR Inox and Cinepolis theatres across the country.
Despite facing competition from films like "Pushpa 2" and "Marco," YJHD managed an impressive start upon its re-release. However, it did not surpass the opening day earnings of another re-released film, "Tumbbad." The horror classic starring Sohum Shah had previously set a high bar by collecting around Rs 1.6 crore (nett) on its first day back in theatres.
"Tumbbad," known for its gripping horror narrative, had taken audiences by storm during its re-release. Although YJHD had a commendable opening, it couldn't quite match Tumbbad's impressive numbers. The strong performance of both films highlights the growing trend of successful re-releases in Indian cinema.
The return of "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" to cinemas has rekindled fond memories for many fans. While it didn't break records set by other re-releases like "Tumbbad," it still enjoyed a warm reception from audiences eager to revisit this beloved story of friendship and romance.
