All We Imagine As Light, Cannes Grand Prix Winner, To Open MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2024
All We Imagine as Light, a film that made history by winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Festival de Cannes, is set to open the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival on 18 October 2024. Co-produced by petit chaos from France and Chalk & Cheese and Another Birth from India, it will be distributed by Spirit Media in India. This critically acclaimed film will soon be available in theatres across India.
The story unfolds in Mumbai, focusing on Nurse Prabha who receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her roommate Anu struggles to find privacy with her boyfriend. Parvati, a cook at the hospital and Prabha's confidant, joins them on a trip to Ratnagiri. This journey offers them a chance to reflect on their life choices.

MAMI Mumbai Film Festival will run from 19 to 24 October 2024, offering a six-day celebration of cinema, creativity, and culture. The festival will feature over 110 films in more than 50 languages, showcasing both features and non-features across various genres. It aims to bring cinematic excellence to Mumbai's vibrant cultural scene.
Interim Festival Director Shivendra Singh Dungarpur expressed his enthusiasm for opening the festival with this film. "We're delighted to open the festival this year with a film that has the city of Mumbai at its heart," he stated. He highlighted the film's journey from facing funding challenges to winning accolades worldwide.
Director Payal Kapadia shared her excitement about her film being chosen as the opening feature at MAMI. "To have All We Imagine as Light open MAMI Mumbai Film Festival is a tremendous honour," she said. She recalled how MAMI introduced her to world cinema during her student days in Mumbai.
Rana Daggubati, actor and MAMI board member, also expressed his excitement: "After creating history at Cannes and a tremendous theatrical opening in France, we are thrilled to bring the film to festival goers and audiences in India." He emphasised MAMI's commitment to supporting independent voices and South Asian talent.
