Partha Sarathi Deb: Bengal Cinema Loses Its Esteemed Actor At 68

Kolkata, Mar 23 (PTI) – The Bengali film industry mourns the loss of one of its stalwarts, Partha Sarathi Deb, who passed away late Friday night at the age of 68. Deb, a veteran actor known for his extensive work in television and cinema, succumbed to complications related to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) at M R Bangur Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for the past month.

As news of his demise spread, tributes began to pour in from various quarters. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her sorrow on X, stating, "Sad to know of the demise of distinguished and senior actor Partha Sarathi Deb. His departure impoverishes us." Renowned actor Rituparna Sengupta also shared her condolences, reflecting on the numerous films they worked on together and wishing peace for his soul.

Bengal Mourns Actor Deb at 68

Deb's career spanned several decades during which he became a beloved figure in Bengali entertainment. He was celebrated for his roles in TV serials like 'Chuni Panna' and 'Joyee', and made significant contributions to Bengali cinema with performances in films such as 'Raktabeej', 'Kakababu Here Gelen,', 'Lathi', 'Prem Amar', and 'Bogla Mama Jug Jug Jio'. His talent and versatility made him a household name and earned him a vast fan following.

Beyond his acting career, Deb was also an integral part of the industry's fabric as the vice-president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum. His commitment to the craft and his colleagues was evident in his active involvement in the forum's activities.

Following his passing, Deb's mortal remains were taken to Technicians' Studio for the film fraternity to pay their last respects. Among those who came to bid farewell were actors Debdut Ghosh and Biswanath Basu, as well as director Haranath Chakraborty, all of whom shared personal memories and expressed their grief over the loss of a cherished colleague and friend.

The void left by Partha Sarathi Deb's departure will be deeply felt within the Bengali film and television industry. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the hearts of audiences and fellow artists alike.
