The actress was hospitalised due to age-related health issues and died early in the morning. Her daughter confirmed this sad news, and Chakraborty expressed his condolences to the family.

Earlier this year, rumours of her death circulated online but were later debunked by the actress herself, confirming she was well. Despite this reassurance, her recent passing leaves a void in the film industry. She is survived by seven children.

In "Pather Panchali," Uma Dasgupta played Durga, an adolescent girl from a disadvantaged background.
