Tumbbad's Comeback: Advance Ticket Sales Indicate Strong Theatre Return

Sohum Shah's fantasy-drama "Tumbbad," directed by Rahi Anil Barve, is set for a much-anticipated re-release. Initially launched in 2018, the film faced stiff competition from other major productions and didn't receive the attention it deserved. Over time, however, "Tumbbad" has cultivated a dedicated cult following, and its return to theatres is generating significant excitement.

Scheduled to hit theatres again on September 13, "Tumbbad" is already witnessing impressive advance bookings. Just two days before its re-release, around 6,000 tickets have been sold across major national chains like PVRInox and Cinepolis for the opening day. PVRInox leads with over 4,000 tickets sold, while Cinepolis has seen nearly 2,000 sales. The strong advance ticket sales suggest that "Tumbbad" will enjoy a prominent presence on the big screen.

Tumbbad's Strong Return to Theatres

Fans are particularly excited for the film's return, reflected in the robust advance bookings. With just two days remaining, projections indicate that "Tumbbad" will comfortably surpass 20,000 ticket sales in these top chains by the end of advance bookings. This impressive start hints that the re-release could see "Tumbbad" significantly exceed its original opening day numbers, potentially quadrupling its previous record.

The enthusiastic response to the film's re-release underscores the idea that some movies, like "Tumbbad," may indeed be ahead of their time. The film's resurgence is likely to surpass its original run earnings within the first week, challenging conventional verdicts and demonstrating its enduring appeal.

"Tumbbad" has already garnered critical acclaim, with eight nominations at the 64th Filmfare Awards and wins in categories such as Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Sound Design. It also made history as the first Indian film to be featured in the Critics' Week section at the 75th Venice International Film Festival.

Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and creatively guided by Anand Gandhi, with Adesh Prasad as co-director, the film features a talented team of writers including Mitesh Shah, Prasad, Barve, and Gandhi. Produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah, and starring Jyoti Malshe and Anita Date-Kelkar alongside Sohum Shah.

Absence from OTT Platforms

"Tumbbad" is currently not available on any OTT platforms. This adds to the excitement for its theatrical return as fans eagerly await experiencing it on the big screen once more.

The strong advance bookings for "Tumbbad" highlight its growing popularity among audiences. With projections indicating high ticket sales by release day, it seems poised for a successful re-release.
