Tumbbad Box Office Collection Day 6: Sohum Shah’s Horror Film Outperforms The Buckingham Murders
Sohum Shah, a notable actor in Bollywood, has captivated audiences with his performances over the past 15 years. His filmography includes titles like Talvar, Bard of Blood, and The Big Bull. Recently, one of his most acclaimed films, Tumbbad, returned to theatres on September 13. This folk horror drama has once again captured the attention of moviegoers.
Tumbbad features actors like Rudra Soni and Anita Date-Kelkar and is directed by Rahi Anil Barve. The screenplay is crafted by Mitesh Shah, Prasad, and Rahi Anil Barve. The story revolves around a Konkanastha Brahmin family from the cursed village of Tumbbad. They are on a quest for their jinxed ancestral wealth amidst a backdrop of incessant rain caused by a curse from the Gods for building a temple for the demon God Hastar.

In an interesting box office clash, Tumbbad competes with Kareena Kapoor Khan's The Buckingham Murders. Despite this competition, Tumbbad has managed to outperform significantly. According to Sacnilk reports, The Buckingham Murders earned Rs 50 lakhs on its sixth day (first Wednesday), while Tumbbad collected more than double that amount on the same day.
Upon its re-release, Tumbbad opened with Rs 1.65 crores and has maintained strong box office performance since then. Although there was a noticeable dip on day four (first Monday), it continued to hold steady. Sacnilk reported that it earned Rs 1.68 crores on day four and Rs 1.66 crores on day five (first Tuesday). On day six, it garnered Rs 1.42 crores, bringing its total collection to Rs 12.11 crores.
The film is now just Rs 1.37 crores short of surpassing its lifetime earnings of Rs 13.48 crores. This impressive performance highlights its enduring appeal among audiences despite being re-released after several years.
Due to the overwhelming response to Tumbbad's re-release, Sohum Shah announced a sequel titled Tumbbad 2. An intriguing teaser was released featuring characters Vinayak and Pandurang with Sohum Shah's voiceover stating: "Samay ka pahiya gol hai, jo beet gaya woh fir laut ke aayega...darwaaza bhi ek baar phir khulega". This announcement has generated excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the continuation of this captivating story.
