Tasveer Film Market Launches To Enhance Opportunities For South Asian Filmmakers
Rita Meher, the Founder and Director of the Tasveer Film Market (TFM), aims to enhance financing, distribution, and resources for South Asian filmmakers. This initiative seeks to share their stories globally, emphasizing diverse storytelling in cinema. Anupama Bose, an Advisor & Associate Director at TFM, highlights the market's goal to connect South Asian filmmakers with the global industry, especially in North America, to amplify diverse voices.
The Tasveer Film Market is debuting at the 19th Tasveer Film Festival. It will showcase over 40 projects from South Asian creators and their diaspora. These projects were chosen from more than 300 entries from countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the US, the UK, Canada, and Australia. The festival aims to provide a global platform for South Asian cinema and will feature works by renowned talents such as Radhika Apte and Amole Gupte.

The market also highlights completed films seeking distribution through a segment featuring 20 Finished Films out of competition. Notable titles include "The Umesh Chronicles" and "From the Shadows". Additionally, 20 Tasveer Film Market Jury Select Projects will be presented to industry leaders for potential partnerships and funding. The jury includes prominent figures like Dominique Welinski and Falguni Adams.
A significant aspect of TFM is the final pitch session of the 5th Tasveer Film Fund supported by Netflix. Nine finalists will compete for a $25,000 grant, showcasing TFM's commitment to emerging talents. The event will also feature keynote speeches, fireside chats, and panel discussions with industry veterans such as Pan Nalin and representatives from Amazon MGM Studios, HBO, and Blumhouse.
The Tasveer Film Festival runs from October 15th to 20th and will screen over 100 films. It serves as a vibrant venue for cultural exchange and artistic collaboration. This event is crucial for promoting South Asian stories on a global stage. Both the festival and market aim to highlight South Asian cinema internationally while showcasing its rich diversity and talent.
The Tasveer Film Market aspires to be a pivotal event for South Asian cinema by providing filmmakers with opportunities to connect with industry leaders globally. Through its diverse programming and support for emerging talents, TFM is set to significantly influence the international film landscape.
