Tanishaa Mukerji On Bollywood's Transformation And The Rise Of Social Media Critique

Tanishaa Mukerji, a familiar face in Bollywood with films like Neal 'n' Nikki, Sarkar, and Sarkar Raj under her belt, recently shared her insights on the significant transformations within the Indian film industry. Having made her debut in 2003 with Sssshhh, Mukerji has witnessed firsthand the industry's evolution over nearly two decades. Her latest project, Luv You Shankar, sees her alongside Shreyas Talpade, marking yet another milestone in her career. In a candid conversation with Filmibeat, Mukerji delved into the changes she has observed, particularly highlighting the impact of social media and the pandemic on Bollywood.

According to Mukerji, the last five years have been pivotal for Bollywood, especially with the challenges posed by Covid-19. She pointed out that the pandemic's aftermath and the surge of social media have led to an increase in negativity towards the film industry. "Bollywood bashing is happening a lot," she stated, expressing concern over how people seem to forget the joy and cultural contributions Bollywood has made. From emulating fashion icons like Kareena Kapoor Khan to drawing inspiration from characters portrayed by legends such as Zeenat Aman and Kajol, Mukerji emphasized Bollywood's integral role in shaping cultural trends and aspirations.

Bollywood Evolution: Mukerji's Take

Mukerji also lamented the shift in audience preferences from cinema to digital platforms. While acknowledging the success of OTT platforms, she reminisced about the unique experience of watching movies in theatres. "People have forgotten the fun to go in a theatre, sit with a family, and have popcorn," she remarked, pointing out the communal joy that traditional movie-going offers over individual streaming on OTT services.

Despite these challenges, Mukerji's passion for dance shone through last year on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 11, where she impressed both judges and audiences with her performances. Her journey reflects a blend of resilience and adaptability, mirroring the broader shifts within Bollywood itself.

The conversation with Tanishaa Mukerji not only sheds light on her personal experiences and observations but also offers a glimpse into the broader dynamics at play within Bollywood. As the industry continues to navigate through changes brought on by technological advancements and societal shifts, insights from veterans like Mukerji provide valuable perspectives on its evolving landscape.
