Shoojit Sircar Reveals Release Date For His Upcoming Film On Piku’s Anniversary
New Delhi, May 8 (PTI) – Celebrated filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has announced that his upcoming feature film is slated for a theatrical release on November 15, 2024. The declaration came on the ninth anniversary of his critically acclaimed movie "Piku", a narrative that delves into the complexities of a father-daughter relationship, featuring Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles. Known for his distinctive storytelling in films like "Vicky Donor", "October", and "Udham Singh", Sircar is once again set to captivate audiences with a story centered around the unique bond between a father and his daughter, this time casting Abhishek Bachchan in a pivotal role.
Reflecting on the essence of father-daughter dynamics, Sircar expressed, "The father-daughter relationships (are) really special. They have their own set of awkwardness & challenges. Also, I feel it's one of the least discussed or represented relationships, which has a lot of scope for beautiful stories." He further added that his forthcoming film would explore this tender relationship, promising to take viewers on an emotional journey. The yet-to-be-titled project aims to resonate with global audiences through its heartwarming narrative when it premieres in theatres on November 15th, 2024.

"Piku", a film that stands out in Sircar's filmography, was both a commercial success and a critical darling. The movie's plot revolves around Piku (played by Deepika Padukone), an architect, and her father Bhashkor (Amitabh Bachchan), who suffers from chronic constipation and hypochondria. The screenplay, penned by Juhi Chaturvedi, beautifully captures the nuances of their relationship, making it a memorable slice-of-life drama. The film also featured the late Irrfan Khan in a significant role.
Commemorating the ninth anniversary of "Piku", Deepika Padukone shared a nostalgic photo with Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan from the sets. Accompanying the throwback picture, she reminisced about the camaraderie shared among the cast, humorously noting Bachchan's playful remarks about her appetite. Her post read: "He loves telling everyone how much I eat! @amitabhbachchan #Piku #Bashkor #Rana #ShoojitSirkar @irrfan Oh how much we miss you..."
The anticipation for Sircar's next film is palpable among cinema enthusiasts who have been eagerly awaiting another masterpiece that captures the essence of human relationships with sensitivity and depth.
