Shontaan Box Office Collection Day 9: Did Subhashree And Mithun's Film Meet Budget Expectations?

Director Raj Chakrabarty's latest Bengali film, 'Shontaan', hit theatres on 20th December. This emotional family drama reunites the team behind the successful 'Parineeta'. The film, featuring Subhashree Ganguly and Ritwick Chakraborty, tells the poignant tale of an elderly couple abandoned by their son. The movie stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anashua Majumdar, Ritwick Chakraborty, Subhashree Ganguly, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Sohini Sengupta. It opened decently in Bengal with Rs 11 lakhs. In its first week, 'Shontaan' collected Rs 1.43 crore amid positive reviews. The film's emotional depth has struck a chord with viewers.

On its ninth day, which was a Saturday, 'Shontaan' experienced a slight increase in earnings. According to Sacnilk updates, it garnered Rs 20 lakhs that day. This brought its total nett collection to Rs 1.76 crore over nine days. The film's gross collection across India reached Rs 1.98 crore.

Week 1 earnings were ₹ 1.43 crore. On Friday (Day 8), it earned ₹ 13 lakhs, followed by ₹ 20 lakhs on Saturday (Day 9). Despite these figures, the movie is yet to meet its budget expectations fully.

'Shontaan', produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, faced competition from Dev's 'Khadaan' and Tota Roy Chowdhury's 'Chaalchitro'. Both films have overshadowed 'Shontaan' at the box office. Made on a modest budget of Rs 2 crore, the film's nett collection hasn't met this target yet. However, its gross earnings have covered the production costs.

The movie continues to run successfully in cinemas despite stiff competition. Its heartfelt narrative and strong performances have been key factors in drawing audiences to theatres.
