Sheena Chohan Partners With Eknath Shinde To Advance Women's Rights In Maharashtra
During Ganesh Chaturthi, actress and human rights ambassador Sheena Chohan presented a human rights document from humanrights.com to CM Eknath Shinde. This organisation is the largest non-governmental campaign for human rights awareness globally. She also accepted an invitation from him to participate in his women's rights campaign.
Sheena Chohan attended the Ganpati celebrations at the Chief Minister's residence. She expressed her admiration for Mr. Shinde's efforts in advancing women's rights in Maharashtra. "The Honorable Mr. Shinde's activities to help women in Maharashtra is making great progress for women's rights and I'm delighted to be invited to speak to his audience of 1 lakh women, on the subject of women's rights on 19th September."

Sheena emphasised that safety is a crucial issue for women today. Respect for women can be achieved through educating both genders about basic rights and equality. Human rights are essential for a decent society, so everyone must know their fundamental rights and responsibilities. She praised Minister Eknath Shinde's initiatives for women's rights, stating she looks forward to supporting his efforts towards equality and non-discrimination in Maharashtra.
Honourable Eknath Shinde has made significant strides towards equality by including mothers' names in government documents, offering free professional education to women below the poverty line, providing financial aid for pink autorickshaws, and launching a public programme for women's empowerment in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Sheena Chohan received the Hero Award at the United Nations for raising awareness about basic rights and equality among 172 million people. She was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, signed by US President Biden, for her work in human rights. Notably, she was the first Indian invited by Volker Türk's office at the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to promote the UN's 75th anniversary of human rights. She is also the only Indian celebrity followed by the UN's human rights office on Instagram.
"The Indian Constitution is one of the most admired human rights documents in the world," said Sheena Chohan. "Along with the UN's Universal Declaration on Human Rights, it contains basic rights that guarantee women, and all Indians, peace, unity and equality."
Addressing Human Rights Concerns
Discrimination, education access, social security issues, domestic violence, and child labour are major human rights concerns in India. Addressing these requires awareness and educational campaigns about human rights. Sheena expressed her enthusiasm to join Chief Minister Shinde in his commendable efforts to secure women's rights. She hopes he supports her call for mandatory human rights education in all Maharashtra schools.
