Shah Rukh Khan To Be Honoured With Career Achievement Award At Locarno

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan departed for Switzerland on Friday to attend the 77th Locarno Film Festival. He will be honoured with the Career Achievement Award at Piazza Grande, Locarno, on August 10. The actor, aged 59, was seen at Mumbai airport wearing a white T-shirt, jeans, and a jacket before his journey.

The Career Achievement Award, initiated in 2010, recognises individuals whose artistic contributions have significantly impacted cinema and collective imagination. Giona A Nazzaro, the festival's artistic director, announced Shah Rukh Khan as this year's recipient in July. "The wealth and breadth of his contribution to Hindi-language cinema is unprecedented – Khan is a king who has never lost touch with the audience that crowned him," Nazzaro stated.

"This brave and daring artist has always been willing to challenge himself while remaining true to what his fans all over the world eagerly expect from his films. A true 'people's hero', sophisticated and down to earth, Shah Rukh Khan is a legend of our times," Nazzaro had said.

Shah Rukh Khan has enjoyed stardom for over three decades in the Hindi film industry with hits such as "Darr", "Baazigar", "Dil To Pagal Hai", and "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". After a brief hiatus, he made a triumphant return last year with three consecutive hits in "Pathan", "Jawan", and "Dunki".

The festival will also feature a retrospective of his work and include him in a panel discussion. Previous recipients of this award include Italian filmmaker Francesco Rosi, American singer-actor Harry Belafonte, and Malaysian director Tsai Ming-Liang.
