Shabana Azmi Critiques Media Rush In Reporting Unconfirmed Death Of Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain

On Wednesday, veteran actor Shabana Azmi criticised media outlets for hastily publishing unverified reports about the death of tabla maestro Zakir Hussain. Azmi, who shared the screen with Hussain in the 1997 film "Saaz," voiced her dissatisfaction with how the news of the renowned percussionist's passing was handled in an Instagram Story.

Unconfirmed reports of Hussain's death began circulating on social media on Sunday evening. Many celebrities, including Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh, Nimrat Kaur, Riteish Deshmukh, and Anupam Kher, were misled by these rumours. At that time, Hussain's sister Khursheed informed PTI that her brother was "very critical" but still alive.

Shabana Azmi Calls Out Media on Hussain News

"What is this rush to put out news on social media before confirming it. I'm deeply saddened by how... RIP Zakir Hussain," Azmi wrote. Her comments highlighted the issue of premature reporting without proper verification. The incident underscores the need for responsible journalism in today's fast-paced digital age.

On Monday morning, Hussain's family confirmed his passing at a San Francisco hospital due to complications from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He was 73 years old. The confirmation came after a period of uncertainty and speculation surrounding his health condition.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying facts before sharing them widely. It also reflects on how quickly misinformation can spread online, affecting both public perception and personal lives.
