Heeramandi First Review: Bhansali's Period Drama Captures Hearts

Following the success of "Gangubai Kathiawadi" in 2022, Sanjay Leela Bhansali has once again captured the spotlight with his latest project, "Heeramandi". This upcoming period drama boasts an impressive cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Shaikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, Shekhar Suman, Fardeen Khan, Adhyayan Suman, and Taha Shah. Set to premiere on Netflix on May 1, "Heeramandi" is among the year's most awaited releases.

"Heeramandi" delves into the lives of courtesans in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore during the Indian independence movement. In anticipation of its grand premiere, a special screening was recently held, attracting celebrities like Ananya Panday, Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, and Ali Fazal.

Genelia D'Souza was among the attendees and took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the drama. She described her experience as mesmerising and expressed eagerness for more episodes. "What a world, what a journey you take us through to Sanjay Sir. Mesmerised as always. Loved loved loved the entire cast and what an super effort by the crew too," she posted.

Kubbra Said also shared her admiration for Bhansali's vision and the performances of her contemporaries. She praised Richa Chadha's portrayal of Lajjo, calling it soulful, and lauded Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonakshi Sinha for their compelling performances. Taha Shah's romantic portrayal was highlighted as well, marking a unique approach to romance in the series.

Fardeen Khan spoke about his role as Wali Mohammed, a character that epitomises nobility and support for the women of Heeramandi. His participation in this Netflix debut is seen as an ideal return to acting for him.
