Sanjay Leela Bhansali Reveals Why He Uses Mother's Name In His Identity
Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a celebrated filmmaker in the Indian film industry, known for his grand sets, intriguing plotlines, and stellar casts. His movies have earned various awards, including Filmfare, IIFA, and several international accolades. However, many are curious about why the renowned director uses his mother's name, Leela, instead of his father's name, Navin, as his middle name.
Recently, Bhansali revealed the reason behind this choice. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he mentioned that the 'strained' relationship depicted between Nawab Tajdar Baloch and Ashfaq Baloch in Heeramandi is inspired by his own life. He stated, "Thank God that I'm a filmmaker because I am able to express those various feelings and one of them is the fathers sons relationships are always strained, they are also friendly, but there is always a difference of opinion and that is what makes characters."

For those unaware, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's father, Navin, was an alcoholic who died due to liver cirrhosis. In earlier interviews, Bhansali revealed that using his mother's name is his way of showing gratitude for what she has done for him.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ongoing project Heeramandi is garnering much praise globally. Starring Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sharmin Segal, Richa Chadha, and Sanjeeda Sheikh, the period drama revolves around the pre-independence era. Reportedly, he is currently busy making Love & War featuring Vicky Kaushal, Ranbir Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt.
