Salman Khan Faces Backlash For Mislabeling Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies' As Debut

Mumbai, Mar 14 (PTI) - Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently found himself at the center of social media criticism after mistakenly referring to Kiran Rao's latest cinematic venture, "Laapataa Ladies," as her directorial debut. The actor took to the social media platform X on Wednesday night to express his admiration for the film, which he watched alongside his father, Salim Khan. "Just saw Kiran Rao's 'Laapataa Ladies'. Wah wah Kiran. I really enjoyed it and so did my father. Congrats on your debut as a director, superb job. Kab kaam karogi mere saath (When will you work with me)," Salman penned in his initial post.

However, netizens were quick to correct Salman's oversight, pointing out that Rao had actually made her directorial debut back in 2011 with "Dhobi Ghat," a film that starred her ex-husband and Salman's close friend, Aamir Khan. Following the feedback, Salman promptly deleted the erroneous post and replaced it with a corrected acknowledgment of Rao's work on "Laapataa Ladies," maintaining his praise for the film and his interest in collaborating with Rao.

Salman's Gaffe on Kiran Rao's Film

"Laapataa Ladies" unfolds in the fictional state of Nirmal Pradesh and narrates the tale of two brides, Phool and Pushpa, who find themselves accidentally swapped on a train. The mix-up leads one bride to be taken home by the groom, while the other is left behind at a railway station. The film features Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Sparsh Shrivastav in leading roles, with Ravi Kishan playing a significant part. It hit theatres on March 1.

The movie is an adaptation of an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami. Sneha Desai crafted the screenplay and dialogues, with Divyanidhi Sharma contributing additional dialogues. Production credits go to Kiran Rao alongside Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, marking another collaboration in their illustrious careers.

This incident highlights the importance of accuracy in public statements and showcases the swift corrective measures taken by celebrities when inaccuracies are pointed out. Salman Khan's eagerness to support and collaborate with fellow artists like Kiran Rao remains evident, as does his appreciation for the storytelling and cinematic execution witnessed in "Laapataa Ladies."
