Saif Ali Khan Recovering In ICU After Serious Thoracic Spine Injury From Intruder Attack
Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, is recovering from serious injuries after an intruder attacked him at his Bandra residence. He was urgently taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai's Bandra at 3 am on Thursday. The actor underwent several surgeries, including a critical neurosurgery to remove a knife near his thoracic spine and additional procedures for wounds on his left hand and neck. Hospital officials report that the surgeries were successful, and Khan is steadily recovering.
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer at Lilavati Hospital, provided an update on Khan's condition. He mentioned that Khan has stabilized and remains in the ICU but will soon be moved to a general ward. "Fortunately, the injuries, while deep, were managed very well by our medical team. Khan is in the ICU but is recovering steadily. We anticipate shifting him to the general ward in a day or two," he remarked.

Dr. Nitin Dange led the crucial spinal surgery and described the complexity of Khan's injuries. The knife had caused significant damage to the thoracic spine and resulted in a spinal fluid leak. "The knife lodged in the thoracic spine caused a major injury, including a leak in the spinal fluid. We successfully removed the foreign object and repaired the spinal damage to prevent further complications," he explained.
The actor also suffered deep wounds on his left hand and right side of his neck, which were treated by Dr. Leena Jain's plastic surgery team. These injuries required detailed stitching and tissue repair to ensure proper healing and reduce scarring risks. Dr. Jain emphasized their focus on minimizing scarring: "Given the nature of these wounds, our priority was to ensure proper healing and minimise the risk of scarring."
Dr. Srinivas Kudwa, a cardiologist, closely monitored Khan during anesthesia to maintain stability throughout the procedures. The successful coordination among various medical departments was vital for the surgeries' success. "The coordination between departments was key to the success of these surgeries," stated Dr. Dange, confirming that Khan is now out of danger.
If recovery continues smoothly without setbacks, Khan is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon, marking significant progress towards overcoming this traumatic incident.
