Saif Ali Khan Stabbing: Suspect Detained From Train In Chhattisgarh Following Attack
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was stabbed during a robbery attempt at his Mumbai home. Two days later, authorities detained a 31-year-old suspect at Durg railway station in Chhattisgarh. The suspect, identified as Aakash Kailash Kannojia, was travelling on the Jnaneshwari Express from Mumbai to Kolkata. His photo had been circulated by Mumbai Police to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) for identification.
Saif Ali Khan, aged 54, sustained serious injuries but is recovering well at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors expect he might be discharged within two to three days. The police had formed 30 teams to track down the attacker and shared CCTV footage with RPF officials. Around 12:30 pm, they informed RPF Durg that the suspect was on the Jnaneshwari Express.

The RPF at Durg alerted their counterparts at Rajnandgaon station, but the suspect wasn't found when the train stopped there. Eventually, he was located in the front general compartment at Durg station. On Friday, Mumbai Police obtained CCTV footage from a mobile shop in Dadar where the alleged suspect bought earphones for Rs 50 after the incident.
During the attack early Thursday morning, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed multiple times inside his apartment on the 12th floor of Satguru Sharan building in Bandra West, Mumbai. Doctors have moved him out of ICU; he can walk and eat normally now. Neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange stated that Khan is progressing well and could be discharged soon if comfortable.
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif's wife and fellow actor, told police that the intruder became aggressive when confronted but ignored visible jewellery. A senior police official described it as a "stray incident," suggesting no gang involvement and that the intruder likely didn't know whose house he entered.
CCTV footage captured the suspect wearing a red scarf and carrying a backpack as he hurried down stairs from Satguru Sharan's sixth floor around 2:30 am Thursday. Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam confirmed robbery as the motive without any underworld connections.
Medical Details and Public Reaction
Dr Nitin Dange revealed that Khan suffered four main wounds: two on his hand, one on his neck, and a deep one in his spine. During surgery, doctors removed a 2.5-inch knife fragment from his spine; just 2 mm deeper could have caused severe injury.
An autorickshaw driver named Bhajan Singh Rana became unexpectedly famous after transporting Khan to hospital. Rana said he didn't recognise Khan initially due to his blood-soaked kurta but realised when Khan asked for a stretcher upon arrival at Lilavati Hospital.
"He (Saif) walked into the auto," Rana recalled about that night. "There was a seven to eight-year-old boy who also boarded the rickshaw." When they reached Lilavati Hospital's gate, Khan identified himself by saying: "Please bring a stretcher. I am Saif Ali Khan."
