Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Intruder Entered Building While Security Guards Were Asleep
A Bangladeshi national was arrested for attacking actor Saif Ali Khan in Mumbai. The suspect, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, also known as Vijay Das, managed to enter Khan's building by climbing over the compound wall. Once inside, he found the security guards asleep and accessed the main entrance without being detected.
The incident occurred on January 16 when Khan, aged 54, was repeatedly stabbed inside his apartment. He sustained multiple injuries and required emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital. Following his recovery, Khan returned home on Tuesday. The police apprehended the suspect in Thane city on Sunday.

On Tuesday, Mumbai police recreated the crime scene at Satguru Sharan building in Bandra, where Khan resides. They took the accused to various locations he might have visited for food or clothing changes before boarding a train. This was part of their investigation process to gather more evidence.
During their investigation, police discovered that no CCTV cameras were installed in the building's corridor or at the main entrance. The accused had removed his shoes and switched off his phone to avoid detection while entering the premises.
The investigation revealed that both security guards were asleep during the intrusion—one in a cabin and another near the gate. This lapse allowed Fakir to enter undetected. Currently, he is held in custody at either Bandra or Santacruz police stations as needed for further questioning.
Police Inspector (Crime) Ajay Lingnurkar has been appointed as the lead investigator for this case. Fakir hails from Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh and had been living in Mumbai for over five months doing odd jobs through a housekeeping agency.
A court in Mumbai has remanded Fakir to five days of police custody for further interrogation. He is provided with meals similar to other detainees while under lockup conditions.
