Saif Ali Khan Attack Case: Bangladeshi National Mohammad Shariful Islam Remanded In Custody
A 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, Mohammad Shariful Islam, has been placed in 14-day judicial custody for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan. The Bandra magistrate court decided there were no new reasons to extend his police custody. Islam was presented in court after his initial police custody ended, with the police requesting an additional two days for further investigation.
The court observed that Islam had already been in police custody for over ten days. It noted that the investigation appeared complete, and no new grounds justified extending his detention. However, the police could request further custody within the legal timeframe if new evidence emerged.

On January 16, Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder wielding a knife inside his Bandra apartment on the 12th floor. The Bollywood actor, aged 54, required emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital following the incident. He was released from the hospital five days later after receiving treatment.
The accused, arrested in Thane, is reported to have entered India illegally from Bangladesh. After entering the country, he changed his name from Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad to Bijoy Das. This information was provided by the police during their investigation into the case.
The magistrate stated that while there were no fresh grounds for continued custody at this time, authorities could seek renewed custody if new developments arose within the allowed period. This decision reflects a balance between ongoing investigations and legal rights.
