Sai Tamhankar on 'Bhakshak': A Journey of Pride and Social Impact

Sai Tamhankar, a name synonymous with versatility and talent in the Indian film industry, has achieved the remarkable feat of captivating audiences both on the silver screen and in the digital realm. Her recent Marathi film 'Sridevi Prasanna' has been a hit in cinemas, while her Netflix release 'Bhakshak' has dominated the OTT space, securing the top position among Netflix India's films. This dual success not only highlights Sai's exceptional acting skills but also her ability to connect with viewers across different platforms.

The crime thriller 'Bhakshak' has been particularly noteworthy for Sai, marking a significant milestone in her career. The film delves into the harrowing issue of child abuse in a shelter home in Bihar, with Sai portraying a determined SSP officer alongside Bhumi Pednekar's character, a fearless journalist. This project stands out for Sai as it provided her with the opportunity to contribute to a narrative that sheds light on pressing social issues.

'Bhakshak': Sai's Pride in Cinema and OTT

Sai shares her experience working on 'Bhakshak', emphasizing the importance of cinema as a medium to initiate crucial conversations. "When you make a film, you don't really know or cannot predict its fate or how people are going to respond to it. But every time you attempt something different as an actor, you feel the energy. 'Bhakshak' was one of those projects. While shooting, we felt that we wanted to say something important," she explains.

Following the release of 'Bhakshak', Sai felt validated by the audience's response, which resonated with the film's message. She expresses pride in being part of projects that transcend box office collections and spark meaningful discussions. "After the movie release, I felt the same energy and emotions from the audience who appreciated the conversation that we wanted to start through 'Bhakshak.' At least, we awakened something within us that had either been lost or forgotten, and the audience resonated with that. It is very rare for an actor to be a part of projects that go beyond box office collections. I feel dignified, blessed and proud," Sai adds.

Sai concludes by reflecting on the significance of breaking barriers and trying new things in cinema. "Sometimes, when you attempt things for the first time or try to break barriers, you are looked down upon by others. Films like 'Bhakshak' help regain that dignity. I feel blessed and on top of the world because my Marathi film is also doing very well in theatres, and this one is also breaking walls in the OTT space," she states.

Through her roles in 'Sridevi Prasanna' and 'Bhakshak', Sai Tamhankar has solidified her position as an accomplished actor who effortlessly transitions between cinema and OTT platforms. Her success serves as a testament to her prowess as an actor and her commitment to contributing to meaningful cinema.
