Richa Chadha Highlights Bollywood's Shift In Embracing Actresses Post-Motherhood

Richa Chadha is currently receiving acclaim for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi. In the series, she portrays Lajjo, a character who dies in the second episode. Her performance, particularly in the song "Masoom Dil Hai Mera," has been widely appreciated.

On the personal front, Richa is expecting her first child with husband Ali Fazal. In a recent interaction with Filmibeat, she discussed how actresses are breaking stereotypes and securing good roles even after a certain age or having children. She cited Alia Bhatt as an example and mentioned that Deepika Padukone is unlikely to retire soon. Richa noted that if such stereotypes persisted, actresses like Manisha Koirala would not have had opportunities like her role in "Mallika Jaan."

Bollywood Embraces Motherhood

"There are actresses like Deepti Naval, Shabana Azmi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and now Alia; they have not focused on these outdated notions," Richa said. "This is a 90s point of view. Before that, actresses had careers even after getting married and having children. They didn't stop living their lives just to be in front of the camera. If such thinking exists in the industry, we will change it," she added.

When asked about her career plans post-pregnancy, Richa stated, "I think it's very natural to get married and have children. When 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' was released, people were not even ready to talk about who they were dating. Today, it's just the opposite."

She further elaborated, "Everyone talks about who they are in a relationship with; they post break-up announcements and vacation photos. There has been a significant shift in actresses having real lives. Having babies and choosing to work afterward is very normal now. If such thinking still exists, it's very sad."

Richa revealed that she plans to take a break for 4-5 months and will start working on her next project by the end of this year. She also mentioned that she has completed shooting for a film where she plays the role of a nurse.
