Raveena Tandon Highlights Pay Disparity Between Genders In Bollywood
Raveena Tandon, a prominent figure in Bollywood who dominated the industry in the 90s with several hits, recently shed light on the significant pay disparity between male and female actors in the industry. Despite her success, Tandon revealed that her male counterparts were compensated far more generously for the same amount of work.
In a candid revelation, Raveena Tandon discussed the financial inequalities that existed during her peak years. "In those days, the money was very, very less, especially the pay disparity between actors and actresses. The male stars got a lot; much, much more. What they would make in one film, I would make in, say 15 films. For women actors... me, personally... actually, I can't speak for everybody, I can't generalise this. I had to do 15-20 films to make as much money as my male counterparts," she expressed. This disparity not only affected earnings but also impacted the choice of roles and the ability to be selective with projects.

Tandon further elaborated on how this financial gap allowed male superstars like Aamir Khan and Salman Khan to be more selective with their film choices. She noted a positive shift in recent times with more corporates entering Bollywood, leading to a more professional approach and potentially narrowing the pay gap. "For everybody overall as well, the money was much lesser than the situation today. There are a lot more corporates coming in. It's become a much more professional way of doing things, which is great actually," added Raveena.
On the professional front, Raveena Tandon was last seen in "Patna Shukla," where she portrayed a lawyer. The film also featured late Satish Kaushik and Manav Vij and was produced by Arbaaz Khan under Vivek Budakoti's direction. Currently available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar, "Patna Shukla" delves into an education scam affecting thousands of students across India. Looking ahead, Raveena is preparing for her roles in upcoming films "Ghudchadi" and "Welcome Back," promising her fans more of her acclaimed acting prowess.
The actress's revelations about pay disparity highlight an ongoing issue within Bollywood and the entertainment industry at large. As discussions around gender equality gain momentum globally, Tandon's insights contribute to a larger conversation about fairness and equity in cinema.
