Yesubai Bhonsale was the wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and mother to Shahu I. She played a significant role in maintaining the strength and unity of the Maratha empire. Sambhaji shared his power with Yesubai, who made all political decisions independently. After Sambhaji Maharaj was executed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, Yesubai was imprisoned but maintained her dignity and refused to submit to Mughal terms. She was eventually released when Shahu regained power in the Maratha empire.
