Rani Mukerji On 'Pathaan's Impact: A Turning Point For Yash Raj Films

In a recent interaction, Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji highlighted the pivotal role "Pathaan" played in revitalizing Yash Raj Films (YRF) after a series of box office disappointments. The film's success marked a significant turnaround for the production house, which had faced setbacks with several big-budget films such as "Prithviraj", "Shamshera", "Bunty Aur Babli 2", and "The Great Indian Family" not performing as expected.

Mukerji, who is married to filmmaker Aditya Chopra, lauded his decision to release films theatrically despite lucrative offers for digital releases during the pandemic. This move, although initially met with skepticism due to the changing audience preferences towards OTT platforms, was vindicated with the monumental success of "Pathaan". Released in January 2023, the film grossed over Rs 1,000 crore worldwide, becoming YRF's highest-earning movie.

The actor praised the south film industry for its unity and mutual support among actors and filmmakers. She noted the reciprocal inspiration between Bollywood and southern cinema in storytelling and filmmaking techniques. Mukerji also reflected on her evolving approach to selecting film roles over her career, emphasizing the importance of being part of the filmmaking process beyond just acting.

Addressing the pressures faced by the younger generation of actors due to social media, Mukerji expressed her relief at not being directly involved in it. She believes this detachment allows her to speak more freely without the fear of immediate public scrutiny.
