Legal Troubles Escalate For Ramayana Movie As Ex-Producer Demands Payments
Ramayana Movie Legal Trouble Intensifies: The highly anticipated movie Ramayana, featuring a cast of A-list actors, has encountered significant legal challenges. The controversy centers around former producer Madhu Mantena, who has expressed intentions to initiate legal proceedings due to unresolved payment disputes. The film, which began production in 2021, initially included Mantena, known for his contributions to successful films such as Ghajini, Udta Punjab, and Lootera. However, the production baton was later passed to Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus and Allu Aravind, who assured Mantena of his entitlement to Intellectual Property (IP) rights. This article delves into the evolving legal saga surrounding Ramayana.
Indeed, Ramayana is embroiled in legal difficulties that could potentially escalate if the dispute over payments is not amicably resolved soon. Mantena was assured by Malhotra of compensation for his contributions and intellectual property rights, with the promised amount reportedly running into crores. In a recent public statement, Mantena highlighted that Prime Focus Technologies Limited failed to meet their contractual obligations regarding the payment of IP rights. He stated, "The members of the public are hereby informed and put to notice that Prime Focus Technologies Limited had pursuant to an Assignment Agreement entered into with our client Allu Mantena Media Ventures LLP in April 2024 sought to acquire the Intellectual Property Rights of our client in the Project Ramayana (being the script and material 'Ramayana' based on the epic) for an agreed consideration amount as per the terms of the Assignment Agreement."

Mantena further clarified that the assignment agreement has not been fulfilled due to non-payment by Prime Focus Technologies Limited. He warned that all rights remain with him and any unauthorized use or exploitation of these rights would prompt him to take "necessary steps as may be advised." This situation indicates that unless Mantena receives his due payment, he is prepared to pursue legal action against the movie's production. The involvement of co-producer Yash in resolving this issue remains uncertain.
The future of Ramayana's production hangs in balance amidst these legal confrontations. While there have been no definitive reports suggesting a halt in filming, the ongoing legal disputes pose a significant risk of disrupting the movie's shooting schedule. It is hoped that Prime Focus will intervene promptly to settle the outstanding payments, thereby preventing further complications and ensuring the project's continuation.
