Raj Kapoor@100: Retrospective Showcases Ten Iconic Films Across India

To commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of Raj Kapoor, a retrospective featuring ten of his films will be held across India from December 13 to December 15. The event, titled 'Raj Kapoor 100 – Celebrating the Centenary of the Greatest Showman', was announced by his grandson, actor Ranbir Kapoor, at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). This celebration is organised by R.K. Films, Film Heritage Foundation, and NFDC-National Film Archive of India.

The screenings will occur in 40 cities and 135 cinemas at PVR-Inox and Cinepolis. They will start on December 13 and end on December 15, coinciding with Raj Kapoor's birth anniversary on December 14. Tickets are priced at Rs 100 to ensure accessibility for all audiences, reflecting the inclusive spirit of Raj Kapoor's storytelling.

Randhir Kapoor expressed their desire for audiences to relive his father's cinematic magic on the big screen. "Raj Kapoor was not just a filmmaker; he was a visionary who shaped the emotional landscape of Indian cinema. His stories are more than just films; they are powerful, emotional journeys that connect generations of viewers. This festival is our humble tribute to the greatness of his vision," Randhir Kapoor said in a statement.

Ranbir Kapoor shared his pride in being part of the Raj Kapoor family. "Our generation stands on the shoulders of a giant whose films captured the spirit of their time and gave a voice to the common man over decades. His timeless stories continue to inspire, and this festival is our way of honoring that magic and inviting everyone to experience his legacy on the big screen. See you at the movies!" he added.

The retrospective includes classics like "Aag", "Awaara", "Shree 420", "Sangam", "Bobby", "Barsaat", "Jagte Raho", "Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai", "Mera Naam Joker" and "Ram Teri Ganga Maili". These films highlight Raj Kapoor's significant contributions as an actor, director, and producer.

Raj Kapoor began his career as a child actor in "Inquilab" (1935) before establishing R.K. Films studio in 1948. The studio produced timeless classics such as "Awaara", "Shree 420", and "Sangam". His work extended beyond Indian borders, earning him fans in Russia, Uzbekistan, Georgia, and other countries within the former Soviet Union.

This retrospective aims to honour Raj Kapoor's enduring legacy by showcasing his impactful storytelling that continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
