Sumeet Vyas Explores Parenting Themes In Raat Jawaan Hai Without Relying On Big Stars
Sumeet Vyas, a notable actor in Bollywood and OTT, has directed the series "Raat Jawaan Hai." The show features Barun Sobti, Anjali Anand, and Priya Bapat as leads. It explores the lives of three friends who are new parents. Filmibeat recently spoke with Sumeet about the series, casting choices, and working with children.
When asked about the intriguing title "Raat Jawaan Hai," Sumeet explained that writer Khyati chose it. The title initially caused some confusion during casting, with people assuming it might be an erotic series. However, Sumeet clarified that it focuses on early parenting and not erotica.

The trailer has received comments highlighting its relatability. Sumeet found the script very relatable as he was experiencing similar life changes after his child Ved was born. Many involved in the project, including Barun Sobti and other crew members, are also parents to young children.
Discussing the trend of A-list Bollywood stars joining OTT projects, Sumeet shared his perspective on casting. He believes that featuring big stars can sometimes overshadow the story. In web series like "Panchayat" or "Mirzapur," success often comes from strong scripts rather than star power.
Sumeet described directing children as extremely challenging. He and his team were mindful of not overworking them, planning schedules around their needs to ensure their well-being. Maintaining silence on set with 200 people was crucial for a smooth shoot.
Despite being a talented actor himself, Sumeet chose not to cast himself in the series. He prefers focusing solely on directing when taking on such roles. He mentioned having directed theatre plays and ad campaigns but feels acting and directing simultaneously is not for him.
