Queer Artist Shares Struggle And Acceptance In Family During Pride Month
In recent years, Pride Month has become a significant celebration for the LGBTQ+ community. This month-long festival highlights the diverse identities within the LGBTQ+ spectrum and acknowledges the struggles faced by its members. To mark this occasion, Yuvaa released a special episode of their YouTube show, 'Be A Parent, Yaar', featuring Queer artist and poetess, Swastika Rajput, alongside her mother.
In this episode, Swastika and her mother discuss the evolving language of sexual identity, exploring various Gen-Z terms that describe the spectrum of sexuality. Swastika shares her journey of self-acceptance and coming out, providing insights into the challenges and successes of navigating one's identity in today's society. Her mother recalls how they transitioned from revolt to understanding regarding homosexuality.

Swastika recounts a difficult moment when her mother, influenced by societal prejudices, suggested hormonal injections as a 'cure' for her homosexuality. Swastika recalls her mother saying, "Beta hormonal injections bhi aate hain, theek ho jaaogi tum." This highlights the harsh realities many LGBTQ+ individuals face.
Further in the episode, Swastika discusses her mother's reaction to one of her videos, causing them not to speak for two days. Her mother later advised her not to do anything she would regret. They reflect on building their relationship and reaching a place of understanding and acceptance despite initial challenges.
Swastika's mother expresses her support, saying, "Mei isse samajhna chahungi, aage kya karna hai, meri zaroorat pade toh mei iske saath hu."
