Before its pan-India release in five languages on June 27, Prabhas discussed his role as Bhairava. He said, "My character has a lot of grey shades. I will be seen as a superhero, and there is also a humor touch to it. Telugu audiences have seen me in roles like these before. But for non-Telugu audiences, this is the first time they will be watching me in a funny character with grey shades. I think this is the best character I have ever played in my life."

This epic sci-fi mythological film stars Prabhas as Bhairava, Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwattama, Kamal Haasan as Supreme Yaskin, Deepika Padukone as SUM-80, Disha Patani as Roxie, Saswata Chatterjee as Commander Manas, Brahmanandam as Rajan (Bhairava's landlord), Pasupathy as Veeram (a rebel from Shambhala), Anna Ben as Kyra, Shobana, Harshith Malgireddy, Rajendra Prasad, and Keerthy Suresh (voice-over) as BU-JZ-1 alias Bujji.
Nag Ashwin wrote and directed the film. Vyjayanthi Movies is producing it with a massive budget of Rs 600 Crore. Djordje Stojilijkovic is handling the cinematography for this science fiction action thriller. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao edited the film while Santhosh Narayanan composed the music.
