'Phule' Trailer Out Now: The Inspiring Story Of Jyotirao And Savitribai Phule's Fight For Social Justice
The unveiling of the 'Phule’ trailer has sparked considerable excitement, giving the public a first look at the cinematic portrayal of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and his wife, Dnyanajyoti Savitribai Phule. This biographical drama, helmed by Ananth Mahadevan, stars Pratik Gandhi and Patralekhaa in the lead roles, diving into the historical fight against caste oppression and for women's rights in Maharashtra. The narrative focuses on the couple's tireless efforts to uplift women, especially widows and Dalits, challenging the societal norms of their time.
Scheduled for a theatrical release by Zee Studios on April 11, 2025, to coincide with Phule's birth anniversary, the film 'Phule' promises to be a significant exploration of social justice and women's emancipation. Through its compelling narrative, it aims to shed light on the couple's revolutionary struggle against rigid caste systems and their push for educational and societal reforms.

"Imagine two people decided to change the world for the better, in spite of the immense opposition that they had to face. Their story is truly inspiring," said director Ananth Mahadevan, emphasising the film's intention to resurrect these heroes' stories for contemporary audiences.
Pratik Gandhi remarked on the privilege of portraying such a monumental figure, understanding firsthand the adversity faced by Jyotirao Phule in his reformative journey. "I am fortunate that I got to live the life of the legendary Mahatma on screen. I could feel the immense struggle and opposition that he endured as he, along with his wife, dismantled an age-old societal system designed to oppress those at the lowest rungs of the social hierarchy." Similarly, Patralekhaa voiced her admiration for Savitribai Phule, highlighting her pivotal role in advocating for educational and social equality in India, especially for girls.
The film is a joint venture between Dancing Shiva Films and Kingsmen Productions, indicating a strong backing for its insightful exploration of India's social history. The trailer itself, rich with powerful dialogues and intense scenes, sets a clear expectation for a film that is as much about history as it is about the indomitable spirit of its subjects. It portrays the Phules' defiance against societal constraints on education and dignity for the marginalised, showcasing their journey towards building a more equitable society.
Through its narrative, 'Phule' seeks not just to tell a story from the past but to inspire current and future generations with the courage and dedication of Jyotirao and Savitribai Phule. Their fight against entrenched societal norms and their commitment to social reform resonate as a powerful message of resilience and change.
